Meaning
Double-top is a family of soundboard approaches used by different makers in different ways. It can be designed for responsiveness, projection, balance, or headroom, but the label alone does not prove any of those outcomes. Judge the finished guitar and ask for recordings made under repeatable conditions.
Method
Use the same short musical passages on each guitar. Check soft response, strong attack, bass-to-treble balance, sustain, separation in chords, and how the instrument behaves at the edge of your normal dynamics. Record from the same position and do not compare one polished studio track with one phone recording.
NOVA routes
Classic is the familiar NOVA classical path, with a classical double-top and 650 mm scale. Innovator is the modern classical-based crossover: 650 mm scale, offset soundhole, selectable spruce, cedar, or mixed double-top, and a 49 mm crossover or 52 mm classical neck.
Tradeoffs
A traditional solid-top guitar may fit better when historical construction, a particular school of tone, or long-established resale recognition is the priority. A bespoke high-end commission may fit better when the player needs open-ended dimensions, decoration, or voicing choices. NOVA is the focused route when published models, specifications, prices, recordings, and buying terms are useful to the decision.
